"I discovered that by stepping out of my comfort zone more possibilities open up. At the end of the seminar I felt not only excited about my goal to cure cancer, but my perseverance and determination to reach my goal was renewed. I have learned that we as young people are the future. As a result we need to step up where no one else does and make a difference. After going through HOBY I feel equipped to be one of those people."
David M, Valley Christian High School
"I realized I can do anything I put my mind to. I never thought I had the capabilities to be a great leader. I didn't want to leave I loved it so much. It was the best experience I have ever had."
Jack W., Robert A. Millikan High School
"HOBY changed my life by changing the way I think, it showed me that it makes a huge difference in how you approach things. What I'm taking away from my experience at the HOBY seminar is a positive attitude and a lot of enthusiasm along with passion and determination to take myself where I want to be in life."
Arpil E., St. Paul High School
"My time spent at the HOBY L.A. seminar is by far the most memorable and best experience of my life thus far. I have really come out of my shell and become more of an outgoing, focused, determined, and inspired individual. It has given me more confidence to be the leader I want to be to make a positive impact in this world. The day after HOBY I spent two hours volunteering at a local sports camp and also researching several organizations that I am interested in becoming a part of and spending time volunteering at. It has definitely changed my life more the better."
Dane J., Los Osos High School
"I took away many life skills that I will definitely apply to my own. These skills will help guide me through achieving my goals and ultimately my dream career into becoming a broadcast journalist. Being able to learn these skills has motivated me to believe in myself more and now I know what steps I need to take in order to fulfill these goals. At the same time, I feel as though I am able to make a positive difference in this world and I am determined to do so starting now."
Summer C., Culver City High School
"HOBY was a truly amazing experience for me because it really opened my eyes to the world around me. It showed me that even though I am 16, I can accomplish so much more than I ever thought possible! It forced me to look at my future and helped me realize that my future is whatever I want it to be. After HOBY, I realize that I can do whatever I set my mind to, and I feel more motivated than ever to make an impact on the world around me. I have always known that I want to help people and truly make a difference, but HOBY finally gave me the tools I needed to do that. To further my HOBY experience and to learn more about leadership and life, I am planning on attending the World Leadership Congress. Since the HOBY LA conference was so amazing, I imagine this one will be too. I know I will continue to use all I have learned from HOBY throughout the rest of my life in order to truly help the people around me."
Mara K., St. Josephs' High School
"I took away an "I think I can" attitude and unforgettable, lasting memories of an action-packed week-end that changed my outlook on life. I have come to the realization that we are indeed the future of this country and have the ability to make a positive contribution in this world; every one of us has that power. Something I thought was impossible before this week-end. It is now up to us to go for it and follow through on the goals we have learned to set for ourselves and the dreams we have held for a long time. HOBY is the engine I needed to finally turn those dreams into reality. Personally, the seminar represented a tipping point in my life. I can already think of a number of projects I would like to implement. I have come to learn more about myself, the gifts within me as well as valuable information on what kind of a leader I am. My awesome experience with [my HOBY group] has shown me that I am able to work well with others and their different personalities. Together we can get things done. In the end, we all work towards the same goal, to make things happen in this world. After HOBY, I know I can! The sky is the limit! I am ready."
Flo B., Long Beach Polytechnic High School
