HOBY - Los Angeles
Seminar Registration Deadline December 4, 2009
2010 Seminar Scheduled for June 18-20 at Whittier College

What To Expect

When you come to HOBY, you become a part of something larger than your school and your neighborhood. You will be an Ambassador of your school and your neigborhood. You will meet sophomore leaders from throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area and beyond - some from areas and schools that are similar to yours and some that may be very different than what you are used to. During the course of the seminar you will get to know and understand other people and even maybe yourself on a deeper level.

Expect to have roommates!
Our seminar will be held on a college campus, and though college is a couple of years away, you will get an introduction to dorm life.  Bring a couple of items that describe you and share them with your roommates as a way to get to know each other.

Expect to be Challenged!
You be exposed to business and community leaders from around Los Angeles, across the state around around the country. You will listen to speakers on a variety of different topics and you and your fellow Ambassadors will have the chance to question their positions on the topics they present. Bring your honest (and yet respectful) opinions with you to your HOBY weekend.

Expect your opionion to be valued!
During the course of your HOBY weekend, you will be asked to share your views on the different issues and ideas that are presented. You'll have time to question our various speakers on their opinions and the knowledge they present during the weekend. You may choose to share some of your thoughts and opinions with the larger group as well.

Expect to make a lot of friends!
Many Ambassadors meet people at HOBY that they feel comfortable with right away and the friendships last long after the seminar ends. Several staff members have met their best friend at HOBY, and many of our senior staff remain friends more than 10 years after meeting at HOBY.

Expect your HOBY experince to lead you to an even brighter future!
Not only do college admissions counselors look at HOBY as a positive extra-curricular activity for high school students, but some colleges even offer scholarships to people who have attended HOBY and similar programs. Aside from college, your fellow Ambassadors are people you can continue to connect to as you continue with your educational and other endeavors.
